1. Characteristics
Ultimakers are Material Extrusion (FFF or FDM) Machines that use plastic filament. Here is a chart where you can compare their characteristics:

2. Setting up your file in the slicer

Ultimakers use Ultimaker Cura Slicer to create the printing code. You can review the steps to creating your file in Section 2 of this course.

When opening Cura, make sure that you select the correct machine, nozzle size and material in the upper menu.

3. Tips and recommendations

  • After your print is completed, wait until the bed is completely cooled down to remove the model. If you do it before, it might warp.
  • When removing your model from the bed, first remove the glass from the machine. If the model does not pop-off immediately, use one of the spatulas available at the workshop and apply pressure . Please use safety gloves to prevent accidents.
  • If you used a water soluble filament, you can try to remove the bigger parts of the support and then put it in warm water for some hours.
  • You can use a spray filler to post process your piece. At the workshop we like to use this one (external link). After it has dried, you will be able to sand or paint it.
  • Please, visit Ultimaker Cura Support webpage to have an in-depth learning about the software HERE (external link)
