Asking questions
In these videos Niklas, Salomon and Johanna are asking questions.
They use spoken
language forms of the verb "olla" to be.
Mä oon. (Minä olen.)
Sä oot. (Sinä olet.)
They also use spoken language question forms in which the question suffix (-ko/-kö) either disappers altogether or
shortens to "-ks" .
Ootsä? (Oletko sinä?)
Haluutsä? (Haluatko sinä?)
Onks se? (Onko se?)
In their speech vowel combinations change into long vowels: kahvii (kahvia) maitoo (maitoa).
In addition, they use different response particles: Ai jaa, Joo , Okei.
Niklas: Kuka sä oot? Who are you?
Solomon: Mä oon Solomon. I am Salomon.
Niklas: Ootsä opiskelija? Are you a student?
Solomon: En, mä olen töissä Aalto-yliopistossa. No, I am working at Aalto University.
Niklas: Onks toi printteri vapaa? Is that printer available?
Solomon: On se. Kyllä se on. Yeah, it is available.
Niklas: Okei. Okay.
Johanna: Haluut sä kahvii? Would you like to have some coffee?
Niklas: Joo, se ois kiva. Yeah, that would be nice.
Johanna: Okei, mä voin tarjota. Iso vai pieni? Ok, on my treat. Big or small one?
Niklas: Pieni on ihan okei, ei maitoo. Small one is okay, no milk.
Johanna: Okei. Okay.
