Nov 30, 2018

"In this episode we recorded in the Aalto studio in the Aalto University's Otaniemi campus with Prof. Sean Barry visiting us from Carleton University in Canada. We are discussing about synthesis of new ALD precursors and the chemistry of the deposition with those precursors. In particular we focus on the deposition of Gold by ALD with the precursor developed in Barry's group.
You can find Sean discussing ALD on twitter @sean_t_barry or you can send him an email at sean_barry(at)carleton.ca.

Nov 16, 2018

"In this episode we are continuing the ALD series with Professor Gregory Parsons that is joining to speak about area selective ALD. As usual there is a general description on the topic followed by applications and, in the end, some more information about the research done in Parsons' group.
Contact links are on the website and @parsonsthinfilm on twitter.

Ep.29 ALD from the tool manufacturer point of view with Esko from Picosun

Oct 26, 2018

https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/stg-podcast/ep29-ald-from-the-tool-X-KmWfC9d1V/

"In this episode I'm discussing with Esko, from tool manufacturer Picosun, about the industrial side of the technology. What is a small to medium ALD company do and how the industry approaches problems and take care of clients. The industry side brings important points to the technology, first of all the tools that are needed for the research and production. We also learn about some of the application that ALD can be used for outside of the more known semiconductor or academic research.

Ep.27 ALD surface chemistry and Simulations with Simon Elliott

Oct 12, 2018

https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/stg-podcast/ep27-ald-surface-chemistry-GhKQ8_603a-/

"In this episode I'm joined by Simon Elliott (@simon_D_Elliott) from Schrödinger to talk about what computer simulations can teach us about the chemistry of ALD at the atomic level. The discussion starts with some introduction and example of how the ALD deposition works at the smallest scale, too small for the normal analytical technique to analyse.
Some discussion about simulations are performed and the computer hardware necessary. As usual we did not manage to get too deep into some particular topic because we need to keep the podcast in a good listening time but we will probably come back on the topic in the future.
Next week we will take a break from ALD and change the topic but we will be back with a guest from the industry to see the other side of the technology.

Ep.26 In-situ analysis of ALD deposition and applications with Prof. Christophe Detavernier from Ghent University

Oct 5, 2018

https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/stg-podcast/ep26-in-situ-analysis-of-ald-Q1F7V4JHNAu/

"In this episode we kick off the ALD series with our first guest, Christophe, coming to speak about in-situ analysis of ALD deposition processes. The different methods (QCM, ellipsometry, Mass spectrometry, IR spectrometry and XPS) are used to probe the film growth and the chemistry of the process happening on the surface and around the deposition chamber.
The techniques are presented with some exaples of application at the Coocon lab with a more in depth discussion of the latest research topic of ALD and thin film Li-ion batteries.
Again sorry for the non ideal audio quality, this always happens when we need to use Skype.
Here some contacts if you want to know more about @CoCooN, Prof. Detavernier and their work of the group at University of Ghent (@ugent).

Ep. 24 Introduction to ALD

Sep 14, 2018

https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/stg-podcast/ep-24-introduction-to-ald-jduQTz5Axki/

"In this episode me and Nicola (he is finally back) are introducing and discussing Atomic Layer Deposition, its use in the industry as well as a comparison with other technologies.

This introduction episode is the start of a multi episode series about ALD with several experts from academia and industry. The different experts will delve deeper in several sides of the technology to cover it as much as possible.

Ep.20 Chemical Deposition of Thin Films

Aug 17, 2018

https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/stg-podcast/ep20-chemical-deposition-of-qbudvjBF0T7/

"In this episode I got left alone right after the summer holidays (that are not pver apparently) and I'm speaking about Chemical deposition of thin films. The episode is trying to be more lecture style compared to the usual discussion and hopefully will give better insight into the thin film deposition technology continuing from the introductory episode (https://stgpodcast.podbean.com/e/ep11/).

Ep.11 Introduction to Thin films

June 8, 2018

https://www.listennotes.com/podcasts/stg-podcast/ep11-introduction-to-thin-zVaRSlOWPtq/

"It this episode I got left alone to start one of the original ideas of the podcast, introducing a topic and explain it in a general way as a foundation to a more deep dive later on.Thin films are our first try at this since it is the main topic of my research and Nicola's job. We will surely go nice and deep later on with him in a later episode.
I hope that the episode is clear enough for anyone new to Thin Films and probably the quality will improve after some experience in solo podcasting.
And as you might have noticed we are going through a rebranding to better reflect the content of the podcast, now clearly about Science, Technology and Gaming.

"In the first episode we try to start easy, a bit about our self and the beginning of the mini series "introduction to computers". If most of the people know how a car works, they should also know how a PC works.
