Extra: tips for language learning
Vinkki 1 / tip 1: Contextual reading strategies. Use context clues as help when you read something in Finnish (for example when seeing weather forecast in the metro or on your phone). You can use the questions as help:
- What kind of text are you looking at (piece of news, ad, weather forecast)?
- Are there pictures to help you figure out the topic?
- Are there words you recognize?
- Can you predict possible meanings?
Vinkki 2 / tip 2: Switch the language of your phone to Finnish in order to easily take the contextual reading strategies into daily use! Start with weather forecast! :)

Read out loud the words in the Otaniemi campus map. You can only focus on reading the words on the green background and then words listed under "Palvelut".
-
Your group has been selected to brainstorm and design a new campus. Using the Otaniemi campus map and the office picture vocabulary as help, list the most important services/office items at your new campus. Decide a location and come up with your campus motto as well!
-
Group’s report should include
- Time of the meeting (write the day in Finnish, see e.g. here)
- Form: lähinä = face-to-face, etänä = remotely (use the Finnish words in your report)
- Participants (osallistujat in Finnish)
- What was done: what did you cover?
- Questions, comments for the teacher
- Feedback about the tasks
